The organisation provides the following services to voluntary and community groups in Herefordshire.

  • Start up and development support
  • Information, advice and assistance
  • Policy research
  • Representation
  • Partnership work

We call these activities our 'core functions'

How do we work?

1. Services and support

Information, resources, guidance, facilities, knowledge, people and skills to help groups achieve their aims

2. Liaison
Independent contact point for individuals, groups, and other agencies

3. Representation
A voice of the sector and influence at local, regional and national level. Involvement in forums such as Herefordshire Partnership, Herefordshire Infrastructure Consortium, and National Association for Voluntary and Comunity Action

4. Development
Engagement in a range of initiatives to address local need. Where appropriate and it is best placed HVA also delivers direct community services e.g. we host 'Community Wheels', a community transport scheme

5. Partnership
Collaboration with a wide range of partners including charities, businesses and statutory bodies - working to ensure local voluntary and community organisations can access the support they need

Community development involves activities that create active and vibrant communities. In Herefordshire thousands of individuals, groups and organisations are involved in improving quality of life. They make an invaluable contribution and community development provides some of tools to make that happen including consultation, project development, fundraising and training for volunteers. Community development is often supported by values such as sustainability, local ownership and involvement.

HVA is a charity and company limited by guarantee. The direction of the organisation is set by a Board of Trustees. HVA works across the whole of Herefordshire except Ledbury and district. We receive support from statutory agencies (including Herefordshire Council) and numerous grant making charitable trusts
